The Electronic Health Record Sharing System (eHRSS) was exhibited at the Gerontech and Innovation Expo cum Summit (GIES) for the third consecutive year at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 21-24 November 2019.

GIES is a flagship event hosted by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, and co-organised with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation to showcase innovative products and ideas of technology application with the aim to improve the quality of life of elders and their carers in the community, and help cope with a rapidly ageing population in Hong Kong.

Sustaining the efforts of the past two years, the Electronic Health Record Office once again joint hands with the Department of Health (DH) in hosting an exhibition booth at GIES to promote how eHRSS and related programmes of DH, including the Elderly Health Care Voucher Scheme, the Vaccination Subsidy Scheme and the Colorectal Cancer Screening Programme support the delivery of enhanced primary healthcare services in Hong Kong through the innovative use of technology. In particular, the highlight this year included the development of the Patient Portal under Stage 2 eHRSS, which is targeted to be launched in the second half of 2020 as a public health portal to help foster medical-social collaboration, and to engage and empower the public to more actively manage their own health.

The multimedia content of the booth had not only successfully drawn all walks of visitors to learn more about eHRSS and DH's related programmes, but also attracted over 300 members of the public to register with eHRSS on-site during the four-day event.

Since its launch in 2016, participation of the public and the healthcare sector in eHRSS has been growing steadily. As at end-November 2019, over 1.2 million patients and over 1,800 healthcare providers had already registered with eHRSS.
